Sears joined from Sky Bet League One side Colchester United for £100,000 on the 16th of January on a two-and-a-half year deal, in what has turned out to be a move that has revitalised his career.

The former West Ham United forward scored 14 goals in 29 appearances for Colchester this season and has already totted up nine goals for the Tractor Boys.

The 25-year-old scored on Saturday for Ipswich with seven minutes to go, in a game where the Tractor Boys were held at 1-1 after Murphy's opener and Berra's own goal.

Mick McCarthy's men may have secured a play-off spot, three points ahead of seventh placed Brentford, but they will still look to beat Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

Sears told the the East Anglian Times: “I’m loving it here. Playing in front of 25,000 people is what I have wanted for a couple of years.

“No disrespect to Colchester, who are playing in front of four to five thousand, but this is what I was made for and I’m loving it. I’m totally buzzing and enjoying my football.

“I love the fans here, they are great and it really means a lot to me that they have taken to me.

“There are four teams (Derby, Ipswich, Wolves and Brentford) fighting for those last two play-off places still. We have one foot in them but we need to get both in there.

“It will be tough at Blackburn but we need to go there looking to win. If we just go there for a draw anything could happen. Our best form of defence is attack.”

Sears is a product of the West Ham academy and has previously had loan spells at Crystal Palace, Coventry and Scunthorpe.

Now at Ipswich, they sit in fifth place and have accumulated 78 Sky Bet Championship points this season.
