Jimmy Shan has said that he would buy a season ticket at Bury to save the club, after it was expelled from the English Football League after 134 years of existence.

The financially stricken club lost their place in the EFL late on Tuesday night after a takeover bid from C&N Sporting Risk collapsed.

The club had been set a deadline of 5pm on Tuesday evening to complete the takeover, but the deal fell through earlier in the day.

Reports emerged yesterday that prospective buyer - SJ Global International - were in the process of transferring the funds to save the club when the EFL made their announcement that it had been expelled.

It was also reported that a firm behind one of the failed takeover bids vowed to launch an appeal against the club's expulsion.

However, the EFL's executive chair Debbie Jevans has said there is no appeal process to force the governing body into changing their decision.

Former West Bromwich Albion caretaker manager Shan has now given his view on the situation with a message via Twitter.

Shan said that it is possibly too late for Bury to appeal, but insisted that he would buy a season ticket at the club if it would help save it from expulsion.

The Verdict

It's been a catastrophic few months for Bury and you can't help but feel for everyone connected with the club - especially its supporters and the community.

It's such a shame that it's come to this and it was certainly a dark day for English football when Bury were expelled.

Unfortunately, I think Shan could be right. I think it's too late for Bury to make an appeal and it seems that the EFL will not be changing their decision.

It's good to see people like Shan within the football world show their support for the club, although it could be too late to change anything.
