Maghoma has faith in his Birmingham team

The 27-year-old midfielder penned a two year deal at the club last Friday, with an option of an extra year at the club - his former clubs include Burton Albion and Tottenham Hotspur, where he started his career.

He only made five appearances last term after making 25 the season before hand, scoring once in the League Cup in the process.

The attacking midfielder worked with Blues manager Gary Rowett during their time at Burton together, who sold him to Sheffield Wednesday back in 2013.

He told the Birmingham Mail: “Speaking to the manager and the plans that he has, I think it will happen

“You don’t want to be big headed or anything but we want to achieve a minimum of at least the play-offs.

“Finishing in the top ten was a great achievement from where Birmingham were at the beginning of last season.

“When I was with Sheffield we were in the top seven and you guys were in the bottom half of the table and you actually finished above us. So it’s a great achievement what he did.

“Hopefully with me coming in we can keep that going and get a couple of places up.

“Nothing is ever 100 per cent but I’m going to work my socks off and I’m going to try and achieve to get back into the Premier League. That’s my ambition.

“I’m an ambitious player. I came from Spurs and I went down two leagues and I’ve come back up in to the Championship.

“I would like to think that I’m good enough to play in the Premier but I have to work hard first and this is a step towards reaching my goals.”

Maghoma is the first of a number of 'quality' signings Rowett wants to make this summer in order to boost his side for a return to the Premier League once more.

He did brilliantly to turn fortunes around at St Andrews last year, after taking over from Lee Clark whilst they were in the relegation zone and finishing tenth.
