Former Sunderland players Victor Anichebe and David Meyler have offered their views on who the Black Cats should bring in as their new manager.

Phil Parkinson was shown the door yesterday evening from the Wearside club and the men from the Stadium of Light are now looking for a new manager.

Indeed, with takeover talk continuing it'll be interesting to see if the new men that come in wait to get things over the line there before appointing a new gaffer, or whether they press ahead with that first.

Certainly, there are several uncertain dynamics around the club at the moment, and two former Black Cats players have disclosed who they would like to see come in.

The exchange was on Instagram, with Chronicle Live transcribing things.

Firstly, Anichebe suggested Nigel Pearson: “Finally! Go and get Nigel Pearson and stick with him.”

Before Meyler replied by saying John O'Shea might be worth a look: “Step forward John O’Shea.” The Verdict

Two rather different suggestions here.

Meyler is eyeing O'Shea to go in for his first management role in this country and he might be a different but successful choice as he was highly revered as a player and a leader.

Pearson, meanwhile, is a man that knows how to win promotion and was hard done by at Watford so you can see Anichebe's thinking too.
