Sunderland have had a good start to this season in Sky Bet League One with them well in touch with the leaders at the top of the table.
Certainly, it’s been a more positive year than those that have gone by recently and fans will be hoping that a new era is now underway.
Past seasons at the club have been pretty awful, it must be said, and former player Billy Jones has revealed just how tough it was being a player there.
Now at Rotherham United, Jones was with the Black Cats last season and in an interview with the Yorkshire Post, he has offered a pretty brutal verdict of the atmosphere there.
“Obviously, from where I have come from last season, there was not much positivity at all around the club with what happened. It was obviously horrible being part of that, personally.”
Things have certainly changed even since Jones was at the club, though.
A lot of the mercenaries have gone like Didier Ndong and Papy Djilobodji to leave a side hungry to get back up the leagues.
Clearly, all was not well last year at Sunderland – hence the reason they plummeted once more down a division.
In a short space of time, though, the Black Cats have turned things around somewhat and it seems safe to say the atmosphere about the club now is far less toxic.
