Ex-Sunderland ace shares support for Lee Johnson’s side as League One promotion race gathers pace

Sunderland are riding high in League One at the moment.
After a stuttering start to the season under Phil Parkinson many supporters feared that the club would endure a third year of disappointment in the third tier as they fell short of promotion again.
How wrong they were.
The appointment of Lee Johnson in December was a game-changer with the Black Cats enjoying a wonderful run of form since the turn of the year.
As a result Sunderland now find themselves firmly in the automatic promotion mix.
Just three points separates them from the top of the table, but with two games in hand on first place Hull City there’s a real feeling of optimism going into a dramatic Easter weekend double-header against Oxford United and Peterborough United.
The latest result was a 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at the weekend – a result that ensured that the club maintained their momentum going into a crucial few weeks.
One man who clearly took great delight in the club’s latest win was former striker Victor Anichebe who was quick to express his delight on social media after picking up the three points.
Replying to the club’s Instagram post, Anichebe said: “Keep it going guys!”

The verdict
It’s lovely to see a former player taking delight in the club’s form.
Sunderland have struggled for many years and so to see them getting themselves back on track is a great thing for football.
Hopefully they’ll be able to finish the job that they’ve started and secure a return to the Championship next term.
