The 24-year-old was released by the Owls at the end of the season after a four year spell at the club which saw him net 27 times in 100 appearances.

However, he fell down the pecking order at Hillsborough following his criminal conviction for grievous bodily harm in 2013, and spent time on loan at Carlisle, Coventry City and Blackpool as he struggled to forced his way back into the Owls’ team.

The Bolton News understands that Championship clubs Birmingham City and Leeds United have offered contracts to Madine, as have recently-relegated Blackpool, but he has rejected these in favour of a move to the Trotters.

Should his potential move to Bolton go ahead, the former Rochdale loanee will become Neil Lennon’s first signing of the summer ahead of a season, where they will look to build on last term’s 18th placed finish.
