After his release from Sheffield Wednesday Jose Semedo currently finds himself without a club but that could all be set to change.

Reports from HITC have revealed that the defensive midfielder is keen to stay in England having lived and played in the country for the last 10 years.

The 32-year-old currently finds himself training back in his native Portugal with an offer already on the table from Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal.

The former Charlton player has his heart set on staying in the England however with Scunthorpe and Bury from League One and League Two’s Chesterfield interested in his services.

The midfielder, who is very good friends with Cristiano Ronaldo, has plenty of experience in the lower leagues of English football with 126 games played in League One.

The Verdict

Here at FLW, we think Semedo should take the move to Chesterfield over the interest from League One clubs.

Having never played at a higher level than the Championship in his entire career, the Portuguese midfielder has always been a relatively average player.

Now that he is coming towards the end of his career, a drop down to League Two could be best for the play and in the process, Chesterfield would be gaining a useful player.

A good player to stick in the middle of the park, especially at lower league level, with his aerial ability utilised well by Charlton and Wednesday in the past to put attacking moves together.

Given that he would be a free transfer for any given club, it is probably worth the punt on the player.
