Last week, FLW sources brought you the news that Oxford United were linked with Portsmouth striker Ryan Taylor, we now understand that Michael Appleton is also chasing Chesterfield forward Drew Talbot.
Talbot had an injury hit last season but managed to feature in 18 matches from January, at parent club Chesterfield and on loan at League Two club Plymouth Argyle.
Talbot is a forward, but can also play on either wing, giving the club versatility in attack. He also covered at right back on numerous occasions last season.
He began his career at Sheffield Wednesday before a loan move to Scunthorpe. Luton Town payed £250,000 for Talbot in 2007, before he moved to Chesterfield in 2009, initially on loan before a permanent deal.
Talbot is was on the retained list announced by new Chesterfield boss Dean Saunders, but FLW understands that won’t stop Oxford vying for his signature.
Appleton has already brought in left back Joe Skarz, former Exeter midfielder Liam Sercombe and West Brom striker Kemar Roofe.
