Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton has confirmed he is interested in bringing in free agents Ross Wallace and Ryan Taylor.

Wallace was released by Sheffield Wednesday over the summer so is able to move to a new club as a free agent outside the transfer window.

"We are going to discuss with them where we think there is a position for them," Barton told the Blackpool Gazette.

"They have had fantastic careers and you want to see that desire and that hunger.

"After all they have achieved in the game, they have both shown they still have a desire and hunger to do things in their career."

Wallace moved to Hillsborough from Burnley in 2015 and went on to score 13 goals in 124 appearances for the Owls.

He made 27 appearances in the Championship last season, but was deemed surplus to requirements by Jos Luhukay this summer.

Barton has made an impressive start to life as a football manager, with his Fleetwood side currently sat eighth in League One on 13 points.

Former Newcastle teammate Taylor is also tempting Barton as an option to strengthen his defence.

The Verdict

Wallace in particular would be a brilliant signing for the Cod Army.

The former Sheffield Wednesday favourite still has the ability to cut it in the Championship, so for Fleetwood to tie him down would be a real coup.

Barton has proved a lot of doubters wrong so far this season and this would be a good way of ensuring that continued.
