Former Reading forward Simon Cox has taken to his personal Twitter account to issue a passionate message hailing the Royals’ confirmation over the new naming rights of the stadium.
Reading have confirmed via their official Twitter this morning that local company Select Car Leasing will hold the naming rights to their stadium and also appear on their shirts for the start of next season. The company has been built and grown by supporters of the Royals so there will remain a strong connection between the naming rights holders and the fans.
The naming rights have been given to Select Car Leasing on a ten-year deal meaning that Reading fans are going to have to get used to referring to their home ground as the Select Car Leasing Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Cox came through Reading’s youth academy and also went on to return to the Royals for a two-year spell with the club between 2014 and 2016.
The former Royals forward took to his personal Twitter account on Friday morning to issue a passionate message backing the new naming rights to the stadium and insisting it is right that it has been given to a local business.
I personally love this. The fact that the naming rights of the stadium and the main front sponsor of the shirts is owned by a local business who are Reading fans is massive. Could easily gone to foreign investors but no. This is what Reading FC has been about for years 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is a major development for Reading and one that will help to shape their destination over the next few years on and off the field. Cox is obviously someone that has a strong connection with the club and it would be difficult to argue with him over the benefits of having the naming rights of the stadium remaining something that is still strongly associated with the Royals.
It will have been a challenging decision for Reading to rename their stadium but the extra commercial revenue that will bring will be of real benefit to them. Therefore, it was vital that they made the right decision over which company took the naming rights and Cox would appear to believe they have made the right choice.
Reading should be a club that is community-minded as Cox suggests and this appears to have been a decision made with that in mind. The extra financial injection that this deal could give the club might enable them to achieve more on the field over the next few years as well.
