Derby County fans have seen the last of star man Matej Vydra in a Rams shirt according to Craig Ramage, who has been suggesting he will be sold in order to help Gary Rowett change his squad this summer.

The East Midlands side are set for an 11th consecutive season in the Championship after losing to Fulham in the play-off semi-final on Monday and that could see players leave Pride Park.

The most obvious man to depart is 21-goal top scorer Vydra who enjoyed an outstanding season that saw him scoop the Player of the Year award.

Given that, interest in him seems inevitable and Ramage revealed in his Derby Telegraph column that he thinks the club could sanction a sale for around £15-18m.

That would represent the going rate for top Championship strikers with Britt Assombalonga moving to Middlesbrough from Nottingham Forest for £15m last summer.

Ramage adds that the money brought in from Vydra's sale would allow Rowett the opportunity to bring in some younger players into what is an old squad at Derby.

The Verdict

Everyone at Derby will have known that failure to win promotion means you are vulnerable to losing your best players and Vydra is the main man at Pride Park.

An opportunity to play in the top-flight will surely appeal to him and Derby want to bring in some money.

It's about getting the right fee which would then give Rowett some room to work in the market which is needed as the Derby squad needs freshening up.
