Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan has suggested that Jordan Rhodes would be lucky to join Celtic in the summer window, if that is what comes to pass.

At one time in his career, Rhodes was the most feared striker in the Championship and regularly challenged at the top of the goal-scorer charts in the second tier.

A lack of confidence and form has struck since, though, and bar a hat-trick earlier on this season he has shown very little in recent times of what made him once so revered.

Even so, talk of a move to Celtic appears to be doing the rounds at the moment, and Whelan feels that the striker would be lucky to get such a move.

He said:

“If it comes around – he’s not done a great deal over the last two, three seasons. This is a really lucky signing if he does go.

“He’s not been the player that he was five or six years ago. He’s been in and out of sides, he’s not been scoring the goals he used to score.

“I think anybody that is coming to this stage of their career, if Celtic come knocking on your door he’d be a fool not to take it.”

The Verdict

It's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that Rhodes moves to Celtic Park but you can understand where Whelan is coming from with his comments.

Rhodes needs to show what he can do and will have to convince Bhoys fans he is a player worth having at the club .

Whether or not he can do that, though, is up for debate after what has been a mystifyingly barren spell for the attacker.
