Danny Mills has tipped Rangers to beat his former club Leeds United in the race to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, after speaking to Football Insider.

The Whites are believed to be in the market for some new wide players this summer, with the Yorkshire Evening Post claiming that Marcelo Bielsa is looking to add three new wingers to his squad.

Jack Harrison looks set to re-join on loan from Manchester City, Wolves winger Helder Costa is believed to be on the club's radar, and now, Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent has emerged as a target for the Whites.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Steven Gerrard's side last season, scoring six goals and producing a further four assists during his time at Ibrox.

With Rangers reportedly keen on re-signing Kent this summer, though, Mills has told Football Insider that he expects Gerrard to win the race for the winger, meaning that Bielsa would miss out on the former Barnsley loanee.

He said: "I think Steven Gerrard has more sway than Marcelo Bielsa in this situation - Kent did well at Rangers last season, Gerrard rates him highly and knows him from Liverpool. There is likely to be a bit of hero worship of Gerrard from the player.

"He had a decent time in Scotland last season and he is a top young player. Rangers want to sign him permanently or on loan, and I think they have a very good chance."

Leeds will be looking to right their wrongs after last season's promotion heartbreak, with Bielsa set to stay at Elland Road for another season at least.

The Verdict

Leeds will be gutted to miss out on Ryan Kent should he move back to Rangers on loan, as he has the potential to be a very good player in the second tier.

He really matured as a player whilst on loan at Ibrox last season, contributing to plenty of goals and assists.

You would fancy Gerrard's chances of luring him back to Glasgow, but I think he should look to challenge himself back in England and in the Championship.
