With the new season not too far off, Reading still have some work to do on the transfer front.

They have already secured the services of a number of players, including Mark McNulty from Coventry City and John O’Shea after his release from Sunderland.

But Clement will need to work harder to improve the squad as they look to better last season’s disappointing 20th place finish.

This will be the former Derby boss’ first full season in charge of the Royals after taking over from Jaap Stam in March.

Now the World Cup is over, the pace of the transfer market should pick up moving towards the new season’s big kick-off.

Here are three free agents that Reading and should look to sign as Clement works towards building his side ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The former Crystal Palace wide-man is only 30-years-old and could still offer so much to Reading in the Championship.

A tricky sideman full of pace is the type of exciting player Reading should be looking at to inject a bit of invention to a side that was lacking flair last season.

The South Korean only made 10 appearances for the Eagles last season and would be eager to find a club where he could cement a place in the starting XI to exhibit flair needed at the Madejski.

The former Derby man isn’t the most exciting signing but an experienced defender nonetheless.

With the addition of John O’Shea you could say that that vacancy has been filled, but you can never have too many experienced professionals in your squad.

Shackell wouldn’t play every game, but what he would offer off the pitch would be welcome at Reading with the idea to bring on young players.

With O’Shea and potentially the 34-year-old in the squad it will give Clement plenty of experience to try concede less goals than they did last season.

Bristol City and Reading have both been linked with the former Newcastle and Brighton goalkeeper, and if Reading could pull of the deal, it would be a fantastic signing.

Krul’s arrival would give Vitto Mannone much needed competition between the sticks, something that was sorely lacking for Clement and his side last term.

The Dutchman is entering the phase of his career where goalkeepers enter the peak of their powers.

Signing Krul could well go along way to shoring up the leaky Royals defence.
