Kevin Nolan is interested in taking over as manager of Lincoln City, Nottinghamshire Live have reported.

Lincoln are searching for a new boss after it was confirmed on Monday that Danny Cowley has left the club to take charge of Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town, with his brother Nicky making the same switch to take up the same assistant manager role that he had held at Sincil Bank.

Nolan meanwhile has been out of work since being sacked by Notts County in August 2018, after 19 months in the role.

The former Bolton and Newcastle midfielder had guided the Magpies to the League Two play-offs during the 2017/18 campaign, but was then relieved of his duties after a six-game winless run at the start of the following campaign.

It is thought that Nolan has been looking to get back into management since then, and he reportedly turned down the chance to take charge of Lincoln's current League One rivals AFC Wimbledon last year.

Prior to his time in charge of Notts County, Nolan had a brief time in charge of Leyton Orien as player-manager, winning seven and losing six of his 15 games in charge of the League Two club between January and April 2016.

Lincoln are currently fifth in the League One table, after winning four and losing three of their opening seven league games of the season, having been promoted as League Two champions last season.

It was recently reported that current Newport County boss Michael Flynn is the club's preferred choice to take over at Sincil Bank.

The Verdict

I'm not too sure about this one.

Nolan's record at both Leyton Orient and Notts County is fairly solid, although the fact that he left the latter after such a poor run may well prove to be a concern for many around Sincil Bank.

Indeed, judging by the early reaction to these rumours among Lincoln fans, this may be one that it is well worth the club steering clear of.

With Newport's Michael Flynn seemingly top of their list anyway, it does seem as though they have already identified a different, suitable alternative for the role, and the opportunity to make the step up to League One could well tempt the Exiles boss to make that move, rendering Nolan's interest irrelevant.
