Ex-Nottingham Forest star sheds light on the sheer class of Brian Clough

Nottingham Forest suffered another loss at the weekend as Hull City beat them 2-0 at the City Ground in the Championship.

The Reds have had a pretty tough campaign this season and their form of late has not been good as Aitor Karanka looks to see his new side gel as quick as possible.

Certainly, if he can get them going soon they will finish in relative safety this year but he still needs to do that and then they can build.

Ultimately, Forest fans want to get back to the days of top flight titles and big success but in the meantime the Reds need to be getting promotion out of the Championship.

Fans of the club, meanwhile, can still reminisce about those times and former Red Gary Charles has spoken about how classy Brian Clough was in taking care of people.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Mail, he said:

“Cloughie would take me away with the first team for experience. I had to carry the tea but I would watch them go out on to the pitch and think, ‘That is my dream’.”

“Gaz (Birtles) used to have two Toyota Supras and I would wash them. One day I washed one of them twice but I felt looked after. Brian taught us to respect people. ‘Look after your own’. When it was the tea lady’s birthday we sang and gave her flowers.”

The Verdict

This is just another insight into how classy Brian Clough was.

We won’t see the like of him again, that’s for sure, but Aitor Karanka would surely like to bring similar success back to Forest in the long run.
