Former Nottingham Forest player Stan Collymore has claimed he "can see the similarities now" between current owner Evangelos Marinakis and his predecessor Fawaz Al-Hasawi, as well as revealing the links between the two.

Al-Hasawi's ownership of the East Midlands club ended sourly in 2017, with the Kuwaiti businessman agreeing to sell the club after fan protests called for him to leave.

Collymore was part of those fan protests and with Forest once again experiencing difficulties both on and off the pitch, the former Reds striker took to Twitter to voice his thoughts about the current ownership and reveal Marinakis' links to Al-Hasawi.

Forest announced this morning that Chris Hughton had been sacked following their dreadful start to the 2021/22 campaign.

The Reds are bottom of the Championship and after their 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough last night have taken just one point from seven games this term.

Steven Reid will take charge of the first team temporarily and the search for Hughton's replacement is ongoing, with the club promising to keep fans updated with any progress made.

The Verdict

You can understand Collymore's frustration and you'd have to agree that similarities between the regimes of Marinakis and Al-Hasawi are beginning to show.

Some supporters may be a little disheartened at his revelation that the two were friends before the deal was done.

The Hughton project has proven to be a failure and his departure means that the Reds are looking for yet another manager, something that reflects negatively on Marinakis.

There is growing unrest amongst the fanbase about the current ownership and you wonder whether we could see more fan protests soon.

A change was made at boardroom level in the summer in the arrival of Dane Murphy but whether we could see changes higher up in the near future remains to be seen.
