Ex-Fulham and now Millwall striker Matt Smith has congratulated his old Fulham teammate Ryan Sessegnon after the 19-year-old scored his first goal for the Tottenham Hotspur.

Since making his big money move across the capital, Sessegnon's Spurs career so far has been thwarted by injury.

Having made his debut last month though he was given his first start at Bayern Munich in the Champions League and after twenty-minutes, he had his first goal in a Spurs shirt.

Here's what Smith posted on Twitter after the goal:

Smith, 30, spent three seasons at Craven Cottage between 2014 and 2017. Fulham is one of five clubs that the forward had represented in the Championship but his time at Fulham was probably his most difficult, having scored nine goals in over fifty games.

He and Sessegnon shared the 2016/17 Championship season at Fulham, which was the full-back's first in the Fulham first-team - he scored 25 goals in 120 games for the club before departing for Spurs in the summer.

Plenty of former teammates and managers have congratulated Sessegnon for his goals midweek, including the man who took Fulham up to the Premier League in 2018, Slavisa Jokanovic.

The verdict

Smith and Sessegnon doesn't sound like a very attractive attacking duo now but Smith would've been one of the first players to have helped Sessegnon at Fulham.

There's no bitterness between Fulham fans and Sessegnon and they genuinely wish him well. Seeing him score his first goal for Spurs after missing so much through injury will please the Craven Cottage faithful, and they'll hope to see plenty more of the same.
