Cole has been frozen out of boss Tim Sherwood’s plans and despite being fully fit, the ex-Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder has played just one game this season, in the Capital One Cup against Notts County.

The 33-year-old is desperate to prolong his career and knows he cannot do that by kicking his heels playing for the Villa Under-21’s squad.

Cole has now reportedly held talks with his boss about a loan move away from Villa Park with Sherwood claiming he will sanction a temporary move should a club come calling.

It will be intriguing to see just which second tier sides come forward following this revelation from the West Midlands.

Any club in the Championship that can take a punt of Cole, will get a fantastic addition to their squad, provided they can keep him fit.

Cole comes with an abundance of experience and would be an astute addition to any Championship club, however his wages could potentially prove a stumbling block for most teams.
