With Garry Monk set to embark on his first full season at Birmingham City’s boss he will undoubtably look to strengthen his squad.

The Blues ended the season with a relatively young side and avoided the dreaded drop to League One by five points.

Monk was appointed way back in March with the remit of keeping the Blues in the second tier of English football.

With their position secure, the boss will be looking to add to some experience to his squad.

Bartosz Bialkowski in on the Midlands club’s radar and they have already had two bids knocked back.

But with an apparent transfer embargo that could take effect sooner rather than later, here are four free signings with experience Monk should look to snap up to strengthen his young squad...

The former QPR man would be a perfect fit for Monk’s Birmingham side, stacked with experience in the Premier League and Championship adding this man could be a key decision should they go for it.

Still only 31-years-old, he would bring vital experience and stability to a defence that have shipped way too many goals the last few seasons.

Considering the former Republic of Ireland international is 36-years-old. He still has what is needed to be a calm head in the dressing room.

His impact on the field of play may have diminished slightly but there is no doubt Hoolahan possesses quality on the ball.

The Modric-esque style of play he has would be useful if younger players are unable to manage games well when they are winning or need to come back from the dead.

The winger has a want of a right foot and would add some real quality to the wide areas of Monks side.

Having starred for Barnsley in the League One play-off final two years ago, the former Wolves man would have no problem settling in at St. Andrews.

At only 30 the winger has time on his side and would be one of the more experienced heads in Birmingham’s side.

Arguably one of the most gifted natural finishers England has had in recent years. Prolific stints a Charlton at Tottenham in the Premier League shows he can cut it when it matters.

At 34-years-old his best years may be behind him but that instinct never leaves you, and he could well be an asset for the younger strikers at St. Andrews looking to emulate the former England international.
