This season has ended as another frustrating one for Sheffield Wednesday after once again losing out on promotion through the Play-Offs.
It seemed at one point that it was an either/or between Wednesday and Fulham take the last spot, but a diabolical capitulation from Leeds meant both managed top six finishes.
Wednesday ended up fourth but were knocked out at Hillsborough by eventual winners Huddersfield Town. Their owner has underlined that Carlos Carvalhal will remain in charge, meaning they will be forced to rebuild.
The last few transfer windows have proven that the Owls have immense spending power, and they should use that power to bring in Bournemouth’s Max Gradel.
Gradel confirmed in April that he wants to leave Bournemouth to protect his international career with Ivory Coast, after making just 11 appearances this season and starting zero games.
The 29-year-old joined the Cherries following their promotion to the Premier League from St. Etienne for £7 million.
His form in France during his final season at Les Verts is the main reason Wednesday should sign him. He netted 17 goals from out wide and proved to be one of the division’s best players.
He could add a goal threat to the clubs flanks, and given the fact he wants to leave and the abundance of wide options Bournemouth have, you can’t see him commanding an enormous fee.
The signing of Gradel could be one of the final pieces of the puzzle for Sheffield Wednesday and would make them serious contenders for automatic promotion.
