Former Bolton Wanderers man Karl Henry has publicly blasted the club on Twitter for not paying him fully from his last season with the club.

The 35-year-old was replying to a tweet from the club's official Twitter account where they announced goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and manager Phil Parkinson had been nominated for player of the month and manager of the month respectively.

Taking to Twitter, Henry wrote: "A number of ex-players, including myself, are still awaiting payments from the club.

"Ken Anderson assured me that we would be paid on the 6th. Still nothing!

"We all did our jobs last season. If you could please do yours, we’d really appreciate it. Many thanks. Karl"

The pay row is focused on unpaid bonuses which were promised to the squad if they remained in the Championship, which they did, thanks to Aaron Wilbraham's final day goal.

But when the bonuses were not paid, the players went on strike forcing a friendly against St Mirren in July to be cancelled at the last minute.

As Henry's tweet tells us, the club promised the payments would be made by today (September 6) so it is possible they will simply be paid later.

The defensive midfielder signed as a free agent in September 2017 and was a constant member of the squad, making 33 appearances as he helped Bolton cling onto their Championship status.

The verdict

Whilst I agree with Henry that this is incredibly poor from the club and obviously bonuses should have been paid as promised, I do not think the former Wolves man has gone about this in a particularly good way.

I assume his thinking is that by making his complaint in the public domain it will force the hand of Anderson, but it makes him look incredibly childish.
