Former Birmingham City director Panos Pavlakis has had his say on Harry Redknapp’s shock sacking from the club as quoted by Sky Sports, claiming that something else must have happened behind the scenes for the former Tottenham man to leave his role.

Pavlakis left his role at St Andrew's after the decision to sack Gary Rowett from the club seriously backfired, almost resulting in new man Gianfranco Zola guiding the Blues to the third tier after an abysmal run of form.

Redknapp was brought in to steady the ship, and in the final three games of the season, managed to avert disaster by keeping the Midlands club in the second tier.

Pavlakis expressed his surprise at seeing Redknapp sacked after only three months in charge, especially when he had been so confidently backed in the summer transfer window:

"It was quite a surprise, because it was only three months after he had those great three last games, he was a hero, together with his backroom staff, they kept us up.

"And you saw us at the time, you saw the euphoria, where fans were saying 'come on get Harry, get Harry', it looks like there have been many complications, many confusions, and at the end that led to some misunderstanding."

The Blues, under the guidance of Lee Carsley for now, picked up a point from their first game following Redknapp’s sacking in a 1-1 draw at Derby County.

The Verdict

For Pavlakis to weigh in with his opinion and criticise the move is somewhat hypocritical, with the Greek former director playing a key role in the controversial sacking of Gary Rowett.

However for Pavlakis to suggest something has happened behind the scenes will come as no surprise to Birmingham fans, with something certainly not right at the club in the weeks leading up to Redknapp’s departure.

What the suspected dispute is over remains open to discussion, but perhaps Redknapp will reveal all in the coming months - after all, he was very honest whilst manager at Birmingham.

What do you think could be the real reason for Redknapp's departure, Blues fans?
