Birmingham City are back in action on Friday night though their fans might not be too excited to see their side playing.

The men from St. Andrew's have not had a good season so far and Harry Redknapp ended up paying the price as he lost his job last month.

Indeed, this Friday sees new manager Steve Cotterill in the dugout as the main man for the first time as he looks to get his players up the table and bouncing back from their 6-1 loss at Hull City.

Playing Cardiff, though, probably isn't the most ideal thing to be doing after the break but Wade Elliott has offered the Blues hope with him saying that the players should love working under the manager.

Indeed, as quoted by The Birmingham Mail, the Blue said:

“The players will enjoy playing for him.

“It will be hard work - physically and mentally - but generally in my experience players respond well to that.

“He will want them to be fit and he will want them to be able to take on information and implement it on the pitch.

Some positive news for the fans of the St. Andrew's side, then, but we think those comments will only count for so much until the results start improving.

Certainly, though, a win over the league-leaders this Friday night would surely prove as the perfect springboard as we head into a busy part of the campaign.

The Verdict

Things haven't been ideal for Birmingham this season but there is still time for them to improve and Steve Cotterill deserves the chance to get his ideas across.

Elliott seems to be a fan of the appointment, too, and so it remains to be seen if Cotterill can develop a good team-spirit amongst the players.
