Everton should sack Marco Silva and look to hire Leeds United's Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has told TalkSport.

The Toffees are currently 17th in the Premier League, just two points clear of the relegation zone, with their dramatic late defeat at Leicester City on Sunday piling the pressure on Silva, and Jordan believes there is a clear option to take over from the beleaguered 42-year-old at Goodison Park.

Speaking to TalkSport about Everton's current managerial situation, Jordan claimed: “You need to find the type of manager who is going to invigorate the squad, invigorate the board room and invigorate the fans.

“There is no reason why Everton shouldn’t be able to attract an elite manager to come to the club.

“When you talk about Marcelo Bielsa managing Leeds, why wouldn’t he be managing a team like Everton? That’s the sort of appointment in terms of quality of thinking that would ultimately take Everton forward."

Bielsa took over at Elland Road in June 2018, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League during his first season with tin Yorkshire, before it was announced this summer that Leeds had activated the option of a 12-month extension in the Argentine's contract, securing his future with the club until the end of the current campaign.

As things stand, Leeds are top of the Championship following their 4-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough on Saturday, which made it five wins from five games in November for the Yorkshire based club.

The Verdict

I can see what Jordan is getting at here.

For a club such as Everton to be in the position they currently are is unthinkable, and with every setback, it seems more and more likely that they are going to need some sort of change in order to turn their fortunes around.

When you look at the way that Bielsa was able to take Leeds from a mid-table side to promotion favourites within a few months of his arrival, it certainly seems as though he would be capable of doing that for Everton.

However, considering the way that Bielsa has taken to Leeds, and the club has taken to him, I simply can't see him walking away from that any time soon, particularly when they look like a good bet to finally win that promotion back to the Premier League this season.
