Everton are believed to be preparing to make a move for Charlton’s England U17 defensive starlet Joe Gomez, according to the Daily Mail.
The 17-year old defender was a late inclusion to England’s U17 squad for the European Championship win in Malta in May and put forward some impressive defensive displays which caught the eye of many clubs.
It is thought that Premier League quartet Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle United are all interested in his signature but it is thought that Everton are favourites to sign him.
Gomez is yet to make his first-team debut for the Addicks but he has played at every other level for the club and Chartlon manager Bob Peeters has hinted that he is set to feature in the upcoming season.
Peeters told reporters, ‘At this moment all the central defenders need to step up to play him out of the team.
‘It doesn’t matter if you’re 35 or 17 – if you show me that you’re willing and you have the ability, I don’t see the problem why I shouldn’t play him.’
