Ronald Koeman is preparing to make his first signing as Everton manager, Fulham’s Maarten Stekelenburg could be Everton’s first signing of the summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Maarten Stekelenburg spent the entirety of last season on loan at Southampton where Ronald Koeman was manager, and reports suggest that Stekelenburg impressed his compatriot.
Now that Ronald Koeman has switched his allegiance to Premier League rivals Everton, it has been reported that Koeman would like to be reunited with Stekelenburg was once again, however, this time on a permanent basis.
Slavisa Jokanovic has shown his ruthless streak since the season has come to a close. Already we have seen the sale of Kostas Mitroglu to Benfica. Mitroglu like Stekelenburg was bought whilst Fulham was in the Premier but refused to play after Fulham’s subsequent relegation.
Jokanovic is looking to move on from the Premier League generation of players and may look to cut his losses with Maarten Stekelenburg, and allow the Dutch goalkeeper to leave ,which could free up wages and a potential fee that he could use to strengthen the squad more generally.
Following Tim Howard’s departure to the Colorado Rapids, Everton has been in the market for a goalkeeper and Stekelenburg as a vastly experienced goalkeeper may be the ideal replacement.
