Stoke City are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal to sign defender Cuco Martina from Premier League side Everton.

According to Football Insider 24/7, the Potters are looking to bring the 28-year-old full-back to the Bet365 Stadium on a one-year loan deal before the shutting of the loan transfer window at the end of this month.

The Toffees are willing to let the Dutch born defender go out on loan this season, with Gary Rowett’s side the front runners to secure the deal.

Martina, who joined the ranks at Goodison Park in July 2017 from fellow English top flight side Southampton, has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Everton, but looks set to make the move to Stoke City this summer.

If they deal was to go through, the Curaçao international would join Everton defensive partner Ashely Williams at Stoke, who made the loan switch to the Potters earlier in this summer transfer widow.

The Verdict

The former Saints right back would be a strong addition to the Stoke City side, whilst a loan deal would be beneficial to both the player and his parent club Everton.

Cuco Martina made 21 Premier League appearances for the Toffees last season, but with Marco Silva bringing in a whole host of new defensive talent this summer, is unlikely to feature much at Goodison Park.

Stoke City will be hoping to bounce straight back to the top flight of English football this season, and the loan signing of Martina could help them massively.
