Everton are hopeful of signing Swansea City pair Dan James and Matt Grimes after the duo impressed for the Championship side.

That's according to Football Insider, who claim that scouts from the Merseyside outfit have been watching the players and bids will be lodged in the summer.

Rapid Welsh winger James has enjoyed a real breakthrough year, which has seen him establish himself as a key player for both club and country.

He saw a deadline day move to Leeds dramatically fall through but hasn't let that impact his game in 2019.

And, a move seems inevitable because James is approaching the final 12 months of his deal and the Swans are struggling to convince him to sign a new contract.

Meanwhile, Grimes was recently named as Player of the Season for Graham Potter's side, with the 23-year-old coming on a lot under the guidance of the new boss.

He played in 45 games for the Welsh side in the campaign and his versatility and willingness to adapt to new positions and roles for the team was extremely impressive, although there's no doubt he excels in midfield.

The Verdict

Plenty of clubs in the top-flight will be looking at James so if Everton could land the talented winger then it would be a real coup as anyone who has seen him play would say he is destined to go to the top.

So, that would be a no-brainer and he may be available for a decent price given his contract situation.

Even though Grimes has had a fantastic season he hasn't been consistent enough in his career up to this point to warrant a move to a club like Everton in my opinion but he clearly has a lot of ability but that would be a slightly surprising one.
