Josh Bowler has revealed that despite not starting a league game for Hull City he is finding his loan spell at the KCOM Stadium a positive one.

The 20-year old winger who joined the Tigers on-loan from Everton over the summer, has appeared off the bench eight time this season but yet to make a league start.

Bowler started both of Hull's League Cup clashes against Tranmere Rovers and Preston and has been told by manager Grant McCann that his chance in the league will come.

Bowler who impressed as part of David Unsworth's Everton Under-23s side earned the move to the Tigers after playing a crucial role in the Unsworth's side who won the double in 2018-2019.

Both Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki's form has been one of the reasons as to why Bowler has struggled to find a starting position for the Tigers.

Despite this, the 20-year old acknowledges that he is learning valuable lessons from his time at the KCOM.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday as transcribed in the Liverpool Echo, Bowler said: "I’m still only 20 years old and getting Championship minutes so that’s a positive, I speak with the gaffer all the time and he says my chance is coming. If I come off the bench I try and make a difference."

The youngster has not been put off by losing out to Bowen and Grosicki but instead has been doing his best to learn from two of the "best wingers in the Championship."

Speaking of the pair, Bowler continued: "I pick their brains and watch them play, trying to add things to my game. I’m just trying to build my game by watching them. I want to become a better player and use that to my advantage."

Full of praise for manager Grant McCann, Bowler went on to say: "The manager puts a lot of confidence in me and I’m a confidence player. It’s great to have a manager like that, a manager who believes in me. Hopefully when I get my chance I can take it."

The Verdict

Hull City clearly have an ambitious player on their hands who will be willing to play any part in the team he can.

It's only down to the fact Hull have two of the best wingers in the division (in my opinion) that Bowler hasn't staked a regular place in their starting XI.

However, Bowler will no doubt play a big part in the Tigers season, with him already featuring off the bench eight times and started both cup games.

Bowler has no doubt demonstrated his drive with this revelation, he is happy to learn from two talented and experienced Championship players in order to better him as a professional and stand him in good stead for the future.

Grant McCann clearly is a big fan of Bowler and there is no reason to think he will not play a more regular part in Hull's team as the season progresses.
