Journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Wigan Athletic are poised to complete the signing of Kieran Dowell from Everton at the second attempt.
The Latics currently find themselves in the thick of a relegation dogfight as they sit 22nd in the league after their impressive win over Birmingham City on New Year’s Day. Paul Cook’s men have struggled of late as they slumped into the relegation zone while the sides below them picked up form in recent weeks.
To remedy this, they have turned to an attacking midfield option to add goals from midfield, with centre-back Chey Dunkley currently their top scorer in the Championship.
The Sun reporter Alan Nixon has revealed that they are on the verge of completing the signing of Kieran Dowell from Everton on loan for the rest of the season:
Wigan. Signing Dowell from Everton at second attempt. Loan. Been at Derby.

The midfielder has had a torrid season so far at Derby County, barely featuring or impressing at Pride Park under Philip Cocu. He arrived there with great promise after shining at their East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest before playing a part in Sheffield United’s promotion-winning campaign last term.
Dowell would arrive at the DW Stadium having made ten league appearances this season with one assist to his name.
It was obvious that the move to Debry did nothing to build his reputation in the division, but Dowell still certainly has something to offer on-loan at a Championship club.
Coming into the fill the void left by Mason Mount’s departure was always going to be a difficult one, but a move to Wigan could help him revitalise his season and help push the Latics towards safety.
