A trio of Championship clubs have been given a boost in their pursuit of Everton's Joe Williams, report Football Insider.

Bristol City, Birmingham and Hull are all said to be interested in the youngster, who has been with Everton since the age of seven but now desires to leave as he is not getting into first-team contention.

The 22-year-old has a year remaining on his contract and Football Insider suggest Championship clubs have bid more than £1m in an attempt to sign him.

The Robins saw a bid rejected by Everton in January, but they are still believed to be interested after the midfielder impressed on loan at Bolton last season.

He made 30 appearances for The Trotters last season, and prior to that made 34 in the Championship for Barnsley, but unfortunately for him was relegated on both occasions.

Williams will push for a move if a club comes in for him, and there could be a transfer tussle emerging with Bundesliga clubs also rumoured to be interested.

The Verdict

Williams is a positive player and he always looks to get the ball down and play, which is a testament to his ability and his character since he has featured in struggling teams in the last two years.

He deserves a permanent move to the Championship, and Hull and Bristol City in particular would suit him well. Both clubs have managers who would show faith in him and give him the confidence to express himself, which could help him develop into a top Championship player.
