Wigan Athletic youngster Joe Gelhardt is on the radar of Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, according to ESPN.

The Premier League trio are tracking young striker Gelhardt ahead of potential summer swoops.

The England youth international's recent performances for his country have prompted interest in his services, after he netted twice in four appearances at the Montaigu Tournament in France back in April.

The 16-year-old has been a regular in the Latics' academy teams, initially breaking into the under-18 side at the age of 15 and impressing at that level.

As he is considered to be one of the best young strikers around, Premier League interest is inevitable.

Everton have made it their policy in recent years to snap up the best talent from the Football League in a bid to improve their youth options.

This has seen them land the likes of Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic, Sheffield United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Barnsley duo John Stones and Mason Holgate and Bassala Sambou from Coventry City.

Everton's Merseyside rivals Liverpool are hoping to beat their local counterparts to Gelhardt's signature, while Man United also want to sign him.

All three teams are considering bids while Wigan are desperate to hold onto their talented teenager.

The Verdict

Gelhardt is an exciting prospect and he is already starring above his own age group.

If he can continue to progress at the rate he has been, then the England under-16 star will surely be a Premier League player in the future.

But Wigan will be keen to keep their prize youngster and could offer him the chance to step up to under-23 football next year with the view of breaking into the first-team in the next two or three seasons.
