Everton are eyeing up a move for Norwich City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports in ESPN.

The attacking midfielder has been sensational this season, with the 20-year-old already registering three goals and two assists in thirteen Championship starts, with his form beginning to attract the attentions from clubs in the Premier League.

Maddison joined the Canaries from Coventry City last year, and a successful loan spell in Scotland with Aberdeen was enough to convince manager Daniel Farke to provide the youngster with the opportunity to shine at Carrow Road.

Maddison has duly obliged, and has been one of the most consistent performers in the second tier this season.

After a shaky start to the season, Norwich have begun to steady the ship, and lie just four points off the play off places heading into the international break.

Farke will be extremely keen to keep hold of Maddison to ensure his promotion bid continues, but may struggle to resist a significant bid from Everton, who are set to appoint a new manager in the coming weeks following the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

The Verdict

Reports of Everton’s interest in Maddison should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Managerless, the Toffees can make no claims as to potential targets, with the new manager potentially possessing extremely varying ideas upon his appointment to the club.

Maddison has been sensational this year, but must see out the season with the Canaries.

At just 20-years-old, Maddison needs to be playing on a regular basis, and rotting on a top flight bench is not the move for the youngster needs to make at this stage of his career.

Another six months with Norwich could see the tricky attacker evolve into a real Championship star, and then perhaps he may be ready to make the next step.

Maddison should maintain faith with the Canaries until at least this stage, and if he continues to improve his output, could well realise his top flight dream with the East Anglian outfit.
