According to a report by ESPN, Everton hold an interest in signing Callum Lang from Wigan Athletic.

Wigan teenager Lang has been impressive during a loan spell at League Two outfit Morecambe this season and he is regarded highly by the Latics.

The 19-year-old scored ten times in 30 games for Morecambe in the fourth tier this season to help keep his loan side in the Football League.

The Liverpool-born forward is now being linked with a move back to his hometown as Everton ponder a move for the young striker who spent time in the academy at Liverpool.

Everton have recently been targeting younger players from lower league clubs to bolster their academies and have snapped up the likes of Bassala Sambou (Coventry City), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Sheffield United) and Ademola Lookman (Charlton Athletic).

Lang has made three first-team appearances for Wigan and he is seen as a future star at the DW Stadium.

But the Toffees are trying to poach him by offering him the chance of playing for a Premier League club.

The talented teenager now faces a major decision with Everton set to make a summer move for his services.

The Verdict

Lang has so much potential to reach the top level but he needs to continue his development with regular game time in the lower leagues.

Perhaps he is better advised to stay at Wigan and maybe even spend some time on loan in League One.

A return to his hometown of Liverpool could appeal to him, though, and the chance to play for a Premier League side renowned for bringing through young players.
