Wigan Athletic have seen a bid in the region of £2m accepted by Everton to sign full-back, Antonee Robinson according to Football Insider.

The full-back spent last season on loan with Wigan, and has seemingly made a good impression in his short spell with the Latics. The report also revealed that the defender is set to undergo a medical with the club in the near future.

In total, Robinson made 26 league appearances as Wigan retained their status as a Championship club for another year, and the youngster certainly played his part.

The 21-year-old has been capped seven times for his country and will be keen to have his long-term future resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

Robinson is highly unlikely to be able to force his way into the Everton first-team anytime soon, so a permanent move away from Goodison Park seems as though it's the best move for both parties involved.

At the age of 21, Robinson is yet to reach his full potential, and will be hoping to build on some positive performances in the second-half of last year's league campaign.

It had previously been reported by Football Insider, that Wigan had launched a bid to sign the Everton man, although it wasn't clear as to whether the offer had been accepted.

But it seems as though it's only a matter of time before he leaves Everton, and it appears that Wigan have won the race to land his signature ahead of the new Championship season.

The Verdict:

This is a fantastic bit of business by Wigan, once the deal is completed.

Robinson has already shown that he can adjust to the demands of Championship football, and I'm surprised that Everton aren't even considering having him in and around their first-team next season.

Wigan won't be complaining at all though, and I think this is an excellent signing for a side that will be hoping to steer themselves clear of the bottom three next term.
