According to the Telegraph, Jordan Pickford is expected to undergo a medical at Everton following his international duty, as the Toffees edge closer to agreeing a £30m deal with Sunderland for the goalkeeper.
Pickford, along with Jermain Defoe, stood out for Sunderland last season in the Premier League, offering a shining light for the Black Cats in a disappointing campaign, which saw them slip into the Sky Bet Championship.
The 23-year old goalkeeper’s future has been well speculated already this summer, with Everton reportedly having an £8m bid rejected for Pickford, as Sunderland stood firm over their £30m valuation of the England man.
The goalkeeper is currently away with the England under-21 squad, where he will be competing in the European Championships in Poland, but when he returns it is looking likely he will be heading to Everton for a medical, with Ronald Koeman’s side on the verge of agreeing a £30m deal with Sunderland.
Losing Pickford will be a blow for Sunderland, who are preparing for their first season back in the Championship since 2007, following last year’s disastrous Premier League campaign.
David Moyes walked away from the Stadium of Light following Sunderland’s relegation, and the club are yet to appoint a successor, with under two months remaining until the start of the Championship season.
