Everton attacker seals temporary EFL move

Everton striker Ellis Simms has joined Blackpool on loan until the end of the season, the League One club have announced.

Sims has yet to make his senior debut for the Toffees, although he has been named in Carlo Ancelotti’s matchday squad on several occasions.

The striker previously scored an unbelievable 32 goals in 21 league appearances for Everton’s Under 18s during the 2018/19 campaign, and has scored 16 in 27 league outings for their Under 23s across the course of the last two seasons.

Now, the 20-year-old looks set to be given the chance to prove himself at first-team level, with it now having been confirmed that he will spend the remainder of the current campaign at Bloomfield Road.

Speaking to Blackpool’s official website following confirmation of the deal, Simms said: “This is a club with great history and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.

“As soon as I found out about the interest, I thought this is the place where I can improve my game, step on to the stage and show what I can do.”

Blackpool are currently 16th in the League One table, eight points off the play-off places, and seven clear of the relegation zone, and are next in action when they travel to Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, a game in which Simms could make his debut for the Tangerines.

The Verdict

This looks to be a really good move for all concerned.

For Simms, this deal ought to give him the opportunity to prove he can compete in first-team football on a regular basis, something he ought to improve as he does more and more.

Everton meanwhile, now get to see whether one of their hugely promising young assets is capable of making an impact at senior level, which could set him up to make the step up to the first-team at Goodison in the future.

Blackpool also ought to be pleased with this deal, since they are getting a player who clearly knows where the net is, and who will be desperate to impress, which should them as a club push up the third-tier table.
