Several Premier League clubs are interested in a move for Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.

Spence joined 'Boro from Fulham back in 2018, and although he had to wait until partway through last season to be given his chance in the first-team, the 20-year-old has since gone on to impress under both Jonathan Woodgate and Neil Warnock at The Riverside Stadium.

In total, Spence has made 35 appearances in all competitions for the Championship club, scoring twice, and it seems as though he is now starting to attract attention from elsewhere.

According to the latest reports, Premier League quartet Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Newcastle have all been watching Spence on a regular basis, with the view to a possible move for the Middlesbrough man.

As things stand, there are still just under three years remaining on Spence's contract with 'Boro, securing his future at The Riverside Stadium until the end of the 2022/23 season, putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that might come in during the January transfer window.

The Verdict

It is perhaps not a huge surprise to see this sort of interest emerge in Spence.

The full-back clearly has plenty of potential, and having shown his adaptability by stepping up to senior level and impressing under two different managers already, it does seem as though he could be an asset for a top-flight club in the future.

As a result, this will no doubt be something of a concern for Middlesbrough, who are not going to want to lose such a promising young player.

But given the fee one of those Premier League clubs could offer them for Spence in these difficult financial times, and the appeal that a move to the top-flight would hold for Spence, it could be hard for 'Boro to keep hold of him should a concrete offer come in for the full-back.
