It’s fair to say that it’s been a rollercoaster few years for Sunderland, who are now playing their football in League One. 

The Black Cats had previously been playing their football in the top-flight, before dropping into the second tier after a poor 2016/17 campaign in the top-flight.

One manager that certainly caught the eye in more than one way was Paolo Di Canio, who was appointed as the Black Cats’ manager back in March 2013.

One result that will live long in the memory of the club’s supporters is their famous 3-0 win over fierce rivals Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Di Canio was dismissed in September 2013 though after a poor start to the season in the Premier League, and hasn’t been seen in management ever since.
