Alaves are hoping to strike a deal with West Brom that will see them keep Oliver Burke at the club.

The winger joined Albion in the summer of 2017 and arrived with a good reputation having shone for Nottingham Forest as a teenager, which secured a big-money to RB Leipzig.

However, for various reasons, things just haven't worked out for Burke in the West Midlands and he spent part of last season on loan at Celtic.

Another temporary departure was finalised at the start of the current campaign, with Alaves bringing the Scotsman to La Liga and reports from Spanish paper AS have stated that they want to keep Burke moving forward.

They claim that director of football Sergio Fernández intends to keep just two of the six loan players currently at Mendizorrotza - one of which is the 23-year-old Albion man.

That may be surprising to some as Burke hasn't established himself as a regular this season, with many of his 21 appearances coming from the bench and he has contributed with just one goal and one assist.

QUIZ: Do you know what these 13 ex-West Brom players are doing now?

The verdict

You can imagine that the Baggies will be open to selling Burke and ideally they would move him on permanently.

So, this news will be encouraging to the Albion hierarchy, although they are not going to get anywhere near the £15m that they paid for the wide man and Alaves may not be in a position to finance a permanent transfer.

Therefore, talks will have to take place but the reality is that Burke doesn't seem to have a future at The Hawthorns and some sort of transfer in the next window will suit all parties.
