Former Nottingham Forest central defender Kenny Burns has called upon the East Midlands-based club to appoint ex-Rangers boss Mark Warburton as their new manager during the summer.

According to the Scottish Sun, Burns, who won the European Cup with Forest in 1979 and 1980, has backed the recently departed Warburton to be a sensible appointment for the Championship outfit.

Warburton resigned from his role as Rangers boss last Friday and has since been linked with the vacancy at the City Ground, although interim boss Gary Brazil has now been appointed into the role just until the end of the season.

Burns has now thrown his weight behind the club appointing Warburton in the summer.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Mark Warburton would be a good choice for Forest if he’s still out of work come the end of the season, because I am sure there will be a few clubs after him now he’s left Rangers.

“Just look at what he did at Brentford. He did really well there, he had Brentford right up there in the Championship and he made them a real force.

“If Fawaz ultimately chooses to go for someone who knows the Championship and who has a decent track record, Warburton would be a good choice.”
