Dutch side De Graafschap have ended their interest in Sheffield Wednesday winger Sylla Sow, according to De Gelderlander (as cited by Yorkshire Live).

It is understood that De Graafschap were aiming to secure the services of Sow on a free transfer this summer.

De Graafschap's technical manager Peter Bijvelds recently publicly declared the club's interest in Sow who they were hoping to sign last week.

However, with the Owls seeking a transfer fee, they have now opted to end this particular pursuit.

Since joining Wednesday last year, Sow has struggled to make an impact for the club at senior level.

Limited to just 13 appearances in the third-tier during the previous campaign, the winger has yet to make an appearance for the club in the current term.

Having been included in the match-day squad for Wednesday's victory over Milton Keynes Dons last weekend, Sow could potentially be handed the chance to impress in tomorrow's League Cup clash with Sunderland.

The Owls will be determined to secure victory at Hillsborough after being eliminated from the League One play-offs by the Black Cats earlier this year.

Following this fixture, Wednesday are set to take on Charlton Athletic in the third-tier on Saturday.

The Verdict

With De Graafschap no longer pursuing a deal for Sow, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the winger.

In order to boost his chances of regularly claiming a spot in the club's starting eleven, the winger will need to produce some eye-catching performances when he is given the nod to feature by manager Darren Moore.

Given that Sow's current deal is not set to expire until the summer of 2023, it could be argued that Owls made the correct call to ask De Graafschap to offer a transfer fee.

With the window set to remain open until the start of September, Wednesday should only let Sow leave if they receive a suitable offer from elsewhere.
