Oldham Athletic confirmed the news that Paul Scholes has left his role as manager of the League Two club on Thursday evening.

Scholes had only been in charge of his boyhood team for a short-spell and he leaves the side in 14th position in League Two.

There were high hopes for the Manchester United legend in his first managerial job, but it seemingly hasn't gone as planned as he hinted at potential unbroken promises in a statement released explaining his decision.

"In the short period since I took on the role it unfortunately became clear that I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role."

It's safe to say that Oldham supporters were best pleased with this latest announcement by the club and it leaves them in a very tricky position.
