Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is a target for Bordeaux, according to reports.

Bordeaux's manager is Gus Poyet - who previously managed Sunderland - and he wants a reunion with Cattermole at the Ligue 1 club, according to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror via the Sky Sports News Paper Talk page.

Cattermole has been with Sunderland since 2009 and has been part of the squad which suffered relegation in consecutive years, dropping from the Premier League to League One.

The 30-year-old holding midfielder has racked up over 200 games for the Black Cats and a total of more than 350 in his career, which started at Middlesbrough and took him to Wigan Athletic for a spell afterwards.

Cattermole made his first appearance of the season against Luton Town in Sunderland's second game, coming on as a 54th minute substitute, but he might choose to leave rather than play League One football.

Poyet wants to take the former England under-21 international to France, where he would be offered the chance to play top division football.

The Verdict

Cattermole would be a useful player for Sunderland this season given his experience but they should let him go if an offer like this comes in.

It is unclear whether Poyet wants the defensive midfielder on loan or permanently but it is great chance for the experienced midfielder to play at the highest possible level he can.

If he doesn't get his move, Cattermole adds some tenacity in midfield for the Black Cats.
