Middlesbrough's search for a new manager could see them make a move for former Man United and Everton defender Phil Neville to replace Tony Pulis.

Despite being on duty with the England Women's team at the World Cup, the Express has reported that Neville is being lined up for a move to the Riverside.

In what would be a shock move for Neville given his progress with the England Women's team, the former Man United man is being considered by Steve Gibson and his board alongside the likes of Jonathan Woodgate and Nigel Adkins.

Neville has yet to take his first steps into club management but has impressed the powers that be during his time with the Lionesses, with his commitment, passion and tactical nouse something which has drawn praise from onlooking supporters and chairman around the English game.

Boro are desperate to get the right man in charge of the club going into next season after seeing Pulis fail to guide the club to the top six spot it coveted last term.

Neville, along with his brother Gary, had massively successful careers in the English game and both have long been touted as potential managers in the English footballing pyramid at some point.

The Verdict

This is amazing really, and I can't believe that Neville would drop the England women as quickly as this.

However, we don't know about his desire to get into club management, and he might see it as an opportunity what is too good to turn down.

Time will tell, but this would be a massively bold move by Gibson and Boro if they move for Neville.
