Manchester United are expected to make a decision on where to send Barnsley, Birmingham City, and Derby County target Amad Diallo this week, according to The Telegraph

The 19-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in a big-money move from Atalanta in January 2021 but has found opportunities fairly hard to come by at the Premier League club.

A host of Championship sides, including Barnsley, Birmingham, and Derby are all reportedly keen on Diallo and it seems they may know soon who has won the race for him.

The Telegraph has reported that United are expected to make a decision on which club to loan the winger to this week.

Suggestions that Birmingham's pursuit of the teenager is off are understood to be wide of the mark but Feyenoord, who were set to sign him on loan in the summer window before an injury ruled out the move, are no longer an option.

Diallo has bagged one goal and one assist in his nine appearances for United's senior side since his Old Trafford arrival but has impressed in glimpses for the U23s this term – scoring twice and adding two assists in two Premier League 2 matches.

The Verdict

It seems Barnsley, Birmingham, and Derby could know whether they've got their man by the end of the week.

That the end is now in sight is good news for all three clubs as they'll have time to pursue other targets if they've missed out.

Diallo looks like a really bright talent, hence why United shelled out £18 million upfront plus £19 million in addons for him.

Regular senior football is what he needs to continue his development and he should be really hungry to prove himself while on loan in the Championship.

It can be a difficult division for young Premier League players but the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount are proof that it can be a springboard to top flight success.
