Jay-Roy Grot’s loan spell away from Leeds United is going well, with the young forward set for international honours in the coming week.

Leeds took the option to loan Grot back into the Dutch Eredivisie in the summer after a difficult first year at Elland Road, with the 20-year-old linking up with VVV-Venlo for the year.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have provided an update on Grot, confirming that the forward has been called into the Dutch under-21 squad for the upcoming international break.

Stepping up from the under-20s is a sign of Grot’s progression since his Elland Road departure, with the 20-year-old featuring regularly, making 11 appearances.

Eight of those have come in the starting XI for VVV, with the forward returning two goals and one assist, already bettering the tally he achieved last season whilst at Elland Road.

Leeds signed Grot on a four-year deal last summer, with the youngster’s contract at Elland Road running until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

In his first year at Leeds, Grot made 20 appearances, although only one of those came in the starting XI. He scored one goal, which came in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday earlier in 2018.

The Verdict

This is really encouraging for Leeds, as Grot seems to be enjoying a loan spell back in Holland.

Leeds mismanaged the youngster last season, and there will be hope that he can return to Elland Road next season more mature and a better player.

Grot might've been an outcast last season, but if he develops, he could become a regular at Elland Road.
