Bobby Duncan has been impressing key figures at Derby County, with the club carefully monitoring the youngster after a tough few years.

Having left Liverpool in a high-profile move to Fiorentina, Duncan returned to England this summer, joining the Rams. However, he hasn't made an impact on the first-team yet, with the 19-year-old yet to make the bench this season.

With Derby bottom of the Championship, five points from safety and having scored just seven goals in 15 games, the decision not to turn to Duncan when he has been fit, has baffled some fans.

An update was provided on the teenager today though, with The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway delivering a positive message having spoke to Wayne Rooney at today's press conference.

"Bobby Duncan progressing fine. He trained with the first team for a few days. They're still being careful with him though."

Whether that means the striker will be involved against Millwall remains to be seen as Derby look for just their second win in the Championship this season.

The verdict

You can understand why some Derby fans have been annoyed at Duncan's lack of minutes. The team have been struggling and they don't have much depth up top.

But, you need to trust the people that see Duncan on a regular basis, and they clearly don't think he's ready.

In fairness, he was always going to take time to get up to speed considering his lack of minutes in recent years, so there needs to be patience with him moving forward.
